In My Mailbox: 31/3/12

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren. Let us know what books you've bought, borrowed or received for review!

Losing It by Julia Lawrinson
Yay! Some good Aussie fiction. Read this one last night and really enjoyed it, but it definitely wasn't what I was expecting from a "let's lose our virginity" pact book. I imagined a completely different story in my head after reading the synopsis but I'd say Julia's take on it's pretty good and more "connected" than my version ;) If that doesn't make sense, wait for the review LOL.

This book made my heart explode and it was every bit charming as everybody said it would be! So in love with Oliver and Hadley. Sweet novel with some heavy dashes of emotion. What's not to like? ;)

The Tiger Saga by Colleen Houck
So I've been wanting to read this series for months and months now. They finally arrived! I've heard the most amazing things about this series and look at their seriously high ratings on Goodreads!! I can't wait to dig into some amazing mythology, action and romance <3 Think I'm in for a real treat! (Two more books in the series - hell yes!)

I probably won't be reading this one since it's adult fiction but the synopsis does sound interesting.

Thanks to Harper Collins, Hachette and Random House  for the review copies!
Special mention to Laura from Hachette for sending me so many books these past 2 weeks. Last year I missed out on many due to some system errors but she's been a champ and sending all the books I should've gotten back then now! <3

What's in your mailbox? :)

Title: Pure
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Covenant #2
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Published: April 3rd 2012
Source: ARC from publisher for review

There is need. And then there is Fate... Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her. When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon... and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude... or killing her. When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

In the exciting sequel to Armentrout's smashing debut, you'll have the chance to explore the relationship between Alex and Seth even further. The two Apollyons, destined for tragedy, come closer than ever before as her Sentinel instructor Aiden continues to push her away. I enjoyed Pure even more than I did Half Blood and was shocked by the emotions the author was able to provoke from me. As of now, I am officially TEAM SETH. Who would've thought?

Now that the rules of daimons have changed completely, everyone is in a chaos, panicked and at a loss about how to stop themselves from being slaughtered. With the then-impossible existence of half-daimons, anyone in the Covenant could be the traitor now and no one would know until it was too late. Once again, this novel is filled with heart-pumping action and mystery that pairs so very well with the romance and humour. Jennifer achieves such a perfect balance of all of these elements and her thorough building of the atmosphere is what makes this series so fantastic for me. It was a joy getting to know the secondary characters on a deeper level - their stories were so entertaining! Pure also brings in a trove of new mythology you'll love, from killer furies to barbaric Covenant politics.

The romance in this book will absolutely blow you away. While Aiden still hovers at the forefront of Alex's mind, Seth makes himself known and begins to dominate her thoughts with his persistence and surprisingly sweet personality. Despite how much Alex tries to discourage and chase away the annoying pain in her backside, Seth just keeps coming back and showing her that he cares. Their relationship develops slowly and delicately, shaped by several small moments and big milestones. You'll adore how much focus is put on Alex's relationships and will most likely have a strong urge to fangirl and swoon throughout the novel because of it! In Pure, Aiden and Seth are very much aware of the competition they pose to each other, so get ready for some masculine, tension-filled, head-to-head action! Seth will appear on your radar in a way that's entertaining. His entrance into Alex's heart isn't mushy, sudden or ridiculous - you'll be wetting your pants laughing, aww-ing and doing some frantic fanning instead!

Whether Seth wins you over with his adorable terms of endearment (little baby apollyon!) or you're forever loyal to Aiden, Jennifer will have you holding your breath before you realise you have none left at all. A truly brilliant continuation of a series that I'm dying to continue, as always. If romance isn't your thing, there's enough action and mystery in this book to keep you going, what with Alex sneaking around corners trying not to get stabbed to death by daimons in disguise… My head is currently up in the clouds and I'll be an extremely happy girl once I get the chance to reread this and relive the moments of absolute bliss! Cliffhangers, more questions, new villains, a looming turning point… Why the hell isn't it November yet?!

Are we in love with this series or what? Be sure to leave a comment about why this series is fantastic to you so that you can grab an extra entry for the two main tour giveaways!

Interview with Angelique

Hi Angelique! I hope the school year's treating you well so far!

Yeah, it's been a riot. I just love school…and sarcasm.

Things have been a bit crazy lately, what with Emma's mysterious stalker... How's it feel knowing she relies so heavily on your guidance for all things witch?

As much as I welcome the opportunity to present myself as some all-knowing witch, I'm not one. I have to call in reinforcements—infrequently, but it happens from time to time. But honestly, I don't think of it like she's relying on me in a student/teacher role, although our "witch classes" as she calls them, may inadvertently reflect that kind of relationship. Basically, Emma's my friend and she's pretty cool. And it's really…refreshing…to have someone I can share all this knowledge with. It's nice having someone that isn't a relative to practice witchcraft with. I think of it like we're learning together.

Like you, your mother's a witch so you've grown up in this world. In all of your time, what's the coolest thing you've seen or been able to do?

I think the very first time I conjured fire was the coolest thing I've done, just because it was the first spell I successfully completed on my own. Granted, it was a spell from my cousin's Randi's grimoire, but I managed to make my bed appear to be on fire.

If you were to be stranded on a deserted island, which one item would you want to have with you and why? A spell book? Charm? Voodoo doll? *grins and whispers* We won't say who that'll be for……

Ha! As much as I'd love to rip the head off a Voodoo doll devoted to a certain person, I wouldn't want to waste my item on someone so undeserving of my attention. So on a deserted island, I'd bring a boat. Or a cell phone.

And finally, you and Brendan aren't the best of friends! (Understatement?) What do you think about his relationship with your best friend?

Honestly, Brendan was easier to hate when I didn't really know that much about him. It's a lot easier to dismiss an aloof, untouchable player than it is to hate the devoted boyfriend of your best friend. It's just been really hard for me to reconcile that those two are the same person. I wrote Brendan off because he stood for everything I find distasteful. But he's not the person I thought he was, which makes me wrong about him. And I hate being wrong. Ugh, he's still a pain in the ass, though.

It's been lovely chatting with you, Ange! *bows* Thanks for dropping by and regaling us with your wisdom ;)

No problem, I like you guys. It was fun.

Wondering what's on Angelique's iPod right now? Well....

My favorite song right now—"Malleus Maleficarum" by A.F.I. To be honest, this song has become something of my theme song. I find strength in it. Whenever some…peon…mocks me for my beliefs or calls me "freak," I just smile and listen to this song, because their taunts only make me a stronger person. I also heard that it was about witches being burned at the stake, so bonus points right there for this song.

Giveaways - Open US/Canada (Full Contest Rules)
Lookie here! An iPod with a beautiful Spellcaster skin. Want the chance to win this gorgeous grand prize? At the end of the tour, a Rafflecopter form will become available where you'll have to answer a question about one character. If you follow all of the posts you should be able to answer it easily!

Be sure to check out the daily giveaways available throughout this tour too! Fill in the Rafflecopter form below to score yourself a copy of Spellcaster.

In My Mailbox: 25/3/12

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren. Let us know what books you've bought, borrowed or received for review!

First of all, apologies to all of you. I know I haven't updated the blog in over a week, minus the Revenants Week Post. I came down with food poisoning last week and spent this one trying to catch up with real life work...which, of course, stopped me from catching up here. But never fear - you will have my undivided attention in two weeks time. I'll go back to writing ten reviews in advance <3 Thanks for sticking with me!

Night School by C.J. Daugherty
So this book is way overdue! I was meant to get it months ago but hey, it's here now ;) It sounds deliciously mysterious and I really hope I'll have time to start reading it tonight!

Embrace by Jessica Shirvington
I love this series! I think I have about 3 copies of Embrace now, thanks to repeat review copies LOL. I'm really liking the new black covers that are coming out, but I still love my white/pastel covers more!

Adore the Gallagher Girls series too! I was so excited to jump back into the story. Fabulous characters, as always, and I'm really looking forward to the final book. Although..I don't want it to be over....

Choker by Elizabeth Woods
This sounds like a great contemporary thriller/mystery. I'm getting into these lately so fingers crossed this lives up to expectations!

Shadow Runners by Daniel Blythe
Another thriller/mystery! Don't know whether I'll have time to read this MG book but I'll try to slip it in.

Thanks to Hachette, Simon & Schuster and Scholastic for the review copies!

Revenants Week: Character Profile Reveal

If you haven't seen around the blogosphere yet, it's Revenants Week! This event was organised by Dea and Jayjay from Amy Plum's brand new fansite, Revenants Central, so be sure to head on over and show it some love!

I'm part of the team that was recruited to share with you a character profile from the Die For Me series, all of which was Amy's doing! Want to know about the other characters and what Amy thinks they look like? Check out the past posts here! The next stop will be hosted by Bookworm Lisa and she'll be revealing Lucien's Profile. Keep an eye out for the other exclusive content & giveaways that are floating around! If you haven't started this series yet (WHY?), here's my review of the first book.

Name: Charles Aurelien Lorieux
Born: November 1, 1927 Paris
Died: February, 1942 Paris (Resistance) at age 15.
Hair: Golden-red.
Eyes: Green.
Other vitals: Pale skin - no freckles. 5'10”.
Defining characteristics: Sarcastic. Disillusioned.
Preferred weapon: Sword.

Quote: “He has a good heart,” he continued softly. “Maybe too good of a heart. But this was the final straw for him. The only reason I can think of that Charles would go to Lucien is because he can't cope with our lifestyle any longer. He wants to die.” (DIE FOR ME)

So this is the Charles Amy envisioned while writing Die For Me. What do you think? Are you excited for Until I Die? It's released May 8th so you better pre-order it soon!

Review: Stolen Away by Alyxandra Harvey

Title: Stolen Away
Author: Alyxandra Harvey
Publisher: Bloomsbury Australia
Published: March 1st 2012
Source: Publisher for review

For seventeen years, Eloise Hart had no idea the world of Faery even existed. Now she has been abducted and trapped in the Rath of Lord Strahan, King of Faery. Strahan was only meant to rule for seven years, as Faery tradition dictates, and then give up his crown to another. But he won't comply, and now chaos threatens both worlds. The only one who can break his stranglehold on the Faery court is his wife. . . Eloise's aunt Antonia. Using Eloise to lure Antonia, Strahan captures his wife, desperate to end the only threat to his reign. Now Eloise must become the rescuer. Together with her best friends Jo and Devin, she must forge alliances with other Fae, including a gorgeous protector named Lucas, and Strahan's mysterious son, Eldric—who may or may not betray them.

It was just an ordinary day when a young man kneeled down by Eloise's feet and called her "my lady". Suddenly, her life becomes entangled with danger when she's told someone's out to get her and discovers she must resist all temptations in order to stay alive. After being kidnapped by Lord Strahan who wants to lure out her aunt Antonia, the next Queen of Faery, she immerses herself in a magical world where she can't trust anyone or anything... A charming novel that's enjoyable for all!

The first thing that caught my attention about Stolen Away was the characters. With friends like Jo (man-eater) and Devin (self-proclaimed hottie), El's life is far from boring although it's about to get a whole lot more complicated… Throughout the book, El's family and friends are largely involved with her kidnapping and release, working together to beat the impossible odds. I loved how the story was told from two perspectives (El and Jo), allowing us to experience two totally different journeys. The characters really made the book work, although I do wish we had been able to explore them and the world more thoroughly, as they remained very slightly two-dimensional.

With two perspectives come two romances. Yes, you read that correctly… Kidnapped El has a love interest, as does the main's character best friend, who, might I add, is quite amazing herself. I'll admit I loved Jo the most as a character and adored her love story! It was dark, seductive, dangerous and riddled with the types of complications you know you should avoid. Did I mention the mystery? Have fun turning over some stones in that head of yours! Hot Rock Star Guy is like a maths equation... Le sigh. Down in her prison cell, El's haunted by the other captured fae and the thoughts of her striking knight in shining armour, Lucas. They certainly have their sweet moments but they're not together nearly enough! While both romances were specked with insta-love, I managed to enjoy them for what they were ;)

Overall, an entertaining read by Alyxandra Harvey, whose Haunting Violet I adored. It was great to reunite with her elegant style again and roll around in the troughs full of romance and humour. If I were to complain about anything it would be the ending. Even now I'm asking, "Is that it?" because things aren't fully resolved and I'm left hanging! Another few pages would've done the trick. But nevertheless, give this book a try if you're in the mood for a supernaturally fun read!

Find Alyxandra on Twitter, Goodreads, Facebook and her website.
Buy Stolen Away from Amazon, The Book Depository and Barnes & Noble.

She was a little territorial, not just about me, but about cute guys too. Each and every one of them belonged to her. In fact, for all that she teased Devin, she was notorious for cornering girls in the locker room if she thought they weren't being nice enough to him.
The beautiful Jo...
There was even a sword hanging from his belt. He looked like he belonged under torchlight, not streetlight. And did I mention? He totally kneed on the dirty pavement, right at my feet.
"My lady Eloise," he said in a voice just made for long summer nights and acoustic guitars. "Finally, you are undressed to our eyes."
HOLD THE PHONE. What was that? Way to make an entrance, Lucas!

Cover Reveal: The Glimpse

I'm sure you've all seen this cover floating around today. I was finally given the go-ahead this morning to share it! Doesn't the story sound intriguing? I can't wait to get my hands on it!

The Glimpse by Claire Merle
Released June 7th 2012

In a near future, society is segregated according to whether people are genetically disposed to mental illness. 17-year-old Ana has been living the privileged life of a Pure due to an error in her DNA test. When the authorities find out, she faces banishment from her safe Community, a fate only thwarted by the fact that she has already been promised to Pure-boy Jasper Taurell.  Jasper is from a rich and influential family and despite Ana’s condition, wants to be with her. The authorities grant Ana a tentative reprieve. If she is joined to Jasper before her 18th birthday, she may stay in the Community until her illness manifests. But if Jasper changes his mind, she will be cast out among the Crazies. As Ana’s joining ceremony and her birthday loom closer, she dares to hope she will be saved from the horror of the City and live a ‘normal’ life. But then Jasper disappears.  Led to believe Jasper has been taken by a strange sect the authorities will not interfere with, Ana sneaks out of her well-guarded Community to find him herself. Her search takes her through the underbelly of society and into the pits of the human soul. And as she delves deeper into the mystery of Jasper's abduction she uncovers some devastating truths that destroy everything she has grown up to believe, but she also learns to love as she has never loved before.

New vs. Old

The new cover immediately catches my eye first. It looks attractive, mature and fit to be on my bookshelf! The neutral colours and textures are gorgeous <3 (I have a strong urge to decorate my whole house in grey and teal now.) After you read the synopsis....the cover looks even better! Jagged twigs + wooden heart = restriction. Yes....... And of course, how can you not love the tagline? Describes the book wonderfully!

This new cover suits the story much more than the old in so many ways! Congratulations to the Australian team for doing such a fabulous job and getting the UK pubs hooked too ;) I absolutely can't wait to read this book - hopefully review copies will be available soon!

Are you looking forward to reading this too?

Waiting on Wednesday: Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine! Each week, bloggers spotlight what upcoming release they're eager for.

Unraveling by Elizabeth Norris
Released April 24th

Two days before the start of her junior year, seventeen-year-old Janelle Tenner is hit by a pickup truck and killed—as in blinding light, scenes of her life flashing before her, and then nothing. Except the next thing she knows, she's opening her eyes to find Ben Michaels, a loner from her high school whom Janelle has never talked to, leaning over her. And even though it isn't possible, she knows—with every fiber of her being—that Ben has somehow brought her back to life. But her revival, and Ben's possible role in it, is only the first of the puzzles that Janelle must solve. While snooping in her FBI agent father's files for clues about her accident, she uncovers a clock that seems to be counting down to something—but to what? And when someone close to Janelle is killed, she can no longer deny what's right in front of her: Everything that's happened—the accident, the murder, the countdown clock, Ben's sudden appearance in her life—points to the end of life as she knows it. And as the clock ticks down, she realizes that if she wants to put a stop to the end of the world, she's going to need to uncover Ben's secrets—and keep from falling in love with him in the process.

I remember catching my first whiff of this book months and months ago when all it had was a vague summary... Then when the full synopsis was released plus the cover? *faints* Special emphasis on the cover. My lord... It looks badass, doesn't it? Anyone else noticing the subtle resemblance she has to Elena (TVD)? LOL. It's the hair and outfit!

Revivals. FBI investigations. Possibly dodgy crushes. Impending death. Need to get my hands on this book RIGHT NOW. I have a thing for countdowns - they drive me absolutely insane. Everneath, anyone?!

What are you desperate to get your hands on? :)

In My Mailbox: 11/3/12

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren. Let us know what books you've bought, borrowed or received for review!

YAY! We're back to the normal sized IMMs ;) Loved the books I got this week and am expecting some goodies on Monday! My books come a week after my Eastern friends get them so I know exactly what to expect :P

Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver
Are you kidding me?! This was brilliant. Another 2012 favourite! Every moment was exciting and the characters drove me up the wall <3 Remember when I was unsure about what I'd think of Julian in my Teaser Tuesday post? WELL........ *flashes Team Julian shirt* ...yep.

Love Shy by Lili Wilkinson
This isn't my usual type of read but I just saw it in the catalogue and wanted to get my hands on it! I haven't read a romantic comedy in a while, and I think it'd be entertaining to read about anonymous boys and social missions! Okay, that was a horrible explanation - just read the synopsis haha.

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
This beautiful woman sent the book to me (and Brodie) out of the kindness of her heart. Obviously, we worked with her on the Valentine's Event but seriously? A gorgeous hardcover, signed and personalised on my doorstep. This is one of my all-time favourite books and I will cherish this gift forever. If I didn't worry about breaking it I'd probably sleep with it under my pillow. Just sayin'..

Thank you to Hachette, Allen & Unwin and Veronica Rossi!

What did you receive this week? Leave me a link!

Review: Slide by Jill Hathaway

Title: Slide
Author: Jill Hathaway
Series: Slide #1
Publisher: Harper Collins Australia
Published: March 1st 2012
Source: Publisher for review via Net Galley

Vee Bell is certain of one irrefutable truth—her sister’s friend Sophie didn’t kill herself. She was murdered. Vee knows this because she was there. Everyone believes Vee is narcoleptic, but she doesn’t actually fall asleep during these episodes: When she passes out, she slides into somebody else’s mind and experiences the world through that person’s eyes. She’s slid into her sister as she cheated on a math test, into a teacher sneaking a drink before class. She learned the worst about a supposed “friend” when she slid into her during a school dance. But nothing could have prepared Vee for what happens one October night when she slides into the mind of someone holding a bloody knife, standing over Sophie’s slashed body. Vee desperately wishes she could share her secret, but who would believe her? It sounds so crazy that she can’t bring herself to tell her best friend, Rollins, let alone the police. Even if she could confide in Rollins, he has been acting off lately, more distant, especially now that she’s been spending more time with Zane.

While Sylvia Bell claims she suffers from narcolepsy, her mind, in actual fact, detaches from her body and merges with another. She's able to see what that person sees and feel what they feel, but has no control over her actions. After sliding into a body with a bloody knife in her hand, Sylvia makes it her mission to find Sophie's killer, because all signs foretell that there'll be more danger ahead and after another shocking death in her school stuns the town, she knows if she doesn't solve the mystery fast, she or her family will be next. Sometimes the enemy's closer than you might think, despite how much you don't want it to be true... So how much can you really trust those around you?

Slide was a brilliant murder mystery that had me hooked from the first page. We're immediately shown how "sliding" works; how objects with emotional imprints on them trigger the slide. Vee's ability to only see from the body's eyes works so well for this book. Unless her host steps in front of a mirror, she has no clue who she's in. She receives fragments of the mystery and murder with each slide and every uncovered clue she finds sends her in a different direction for the chase. The killer could literally be anyone, from her bitchy sister, to a suspicious teacher, the school bully and her next door neighbour. Hathaway's suspense-building is absolutely exceptional. I only managed to guess the killer when she wanted us to...just before she sent me reeling again with an unbelievable turn of events. You will NOT see this coming, I swear. My mouth: Gaping.

The characters in this book are very well-written and developed, Hathaway really nailing down their personalities, backstories and possible motives as the killer. Vee has important relationships with Rollins, her best friend, and Zane Huxley, the beautiful new guy in town. They contrast each other so well, with Rollins acting distant and Zane being the perfect boyfriend! Vee's relationship with Rollins is strained, as he's keeping secrets and jealous of her new companion. Zane, on the other hand, will have you eating out of the palm of his hand and begging to have him for yourself. I fell deeply in love with him, so much so that I wouldn't have noticed if Rollins had fallen off a cliff.. Zane's that blinding. *grins* Having said that, you really can't help but be curious about Rollins. He and Vee have this alluring and complicated thing between them that you just want to explore! Lots of delicious, twisty goodness between these three. Well done, Jill!

Vee's the nice girl you can relate to easily. You'll join her every step of the way on this manhunt, although you really won't be of any help at all.. Slide is filled with shocking discoveries (not even related to the murders!) and fast one-eighties that make this a very compelling read. A great thriller with an engaging romance - what a fabulous debut! My notes were filled with "JAKFNBAHBFNADJBHAFKANFJKBA" every time Vee kissed Zane - no joke. You'll love how Hathaway explores all of the different relationships and, hopefully, how the story plays out! Even though she addresses all of the loose ends, I'm very thankful there'll be a sequel so we can really tie them tight ;) Definitely a book you should run out and buy!

I only just recently discovered there will be a sequel of this! Awesome much? <3

Teaser Tuesday: Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver

Teaser Tuesday is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.

The rules are simple!
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

So the plan was to read Goddess Interrupted but that flew out of the window when Pandemonium arrived today. I have to read it first....because it's released earlier....right..... =| *runs off to devour*

"Let me see." Julian reaches out and then hesitates, his fingers an inch from my face. I look up at him. He seems to be asking permission. I nod, and he slips his hand, gently, under my chin…

JULIAN! *sighs* I hope I fall in love with him just as much as I did Alex! Who's read the book already? What did you think? Alex? Julian? Delirium? Pandemonium? Or if you haven't read the book, what are you hoping to see? :)

What's your teaser this week?

Review: The Catastrophic History of You and Me

Title: The Catastrophic History of You and Me
Author: Jess Rothenberg
Publisher: Penguin Australia
Published: April 2nd 2012
Source: Publisher for review

Brie's life ends at sixteen: Her boyfriend tells her he doesn't love her, and the news breaks her heart - "literally." But now that she's in heaven, Brie is about to discover that love is way more complicated than she ever imagined. Back in Half Moon Bay, her family has begun to unravel. Her best friend knows a secret about Jacob, the boy she loved and lost - and the truth behind his shattering betrayal. And then there's Patrick, Brie's mysterious new guide and resident Lost Soul who's been D&G (dead and gone) much longer than she? and who just might hold the key to her forever after. With Patrick's help, Brie will have to pass through the five stages of grief before she's ready to move on? but how do you begin again, when your heart is still in pieces?

The Catastrophic History of You and Me has a fascinating concept, with an emotional tale and dangerous love. When Brie Eagan's perfect life was shattered by her boyfriend's horrifying confession, her heart literally broke in half along with it, leaving behind a devastated family and a troubled ex. Through the gut-wrenching humour, loveable characters and moving scenes of mourning, this book will have you wondering what your life would be like, had you just made one different decision. Maybe you'd have gotten that big promotion, met a fantastic guy or saved someone's life? Ooh. I've got your attention now!

Upon floating into heaven, Brie immediately runs into a boy named Patrick who dresses like he's part of the Top Gun cast. He'll charm you within a second of opening his mouth and suddenly dying doesn't seem that bad at all! You really wouldn't believe the amount of smiles and giggles he got out of me… Acting as Brie's rock and guide in the after life, Patrick supports her through all five stages of grief and gives her something of himself extremely precious and sacred. (Hint hint - big plot point) Their relationship is honestly so amazing, endearing and saddening that I can't even describe! The two have an abundance of adorable moments that puts this book so very high up on the Cool List! You'll come to find that Patrick harbours many secrets that'll mess with your mind and leave you breathless. THE TWISTS! *gasps* Unbelievable, pass-out material right here.

On a serious note, your heart will probably acquire some cracks from this story. When Brie goes back to earth to check up on the people in her life, she finds them all broken and lost. Rothenberg does some amazing character development here, making the situation even more personal than it already is. Throughout the novel we're given the opportunity to get to know Jacob Fischer, her ex-boyfriend, and learn about the long relationship he had with Brie. It all seemed perfect so why did he say he didn't love her? Why is he meeting up with Brie's best friend? What did she do to make him hit rock bottom? The complicated aftermath of Brie's death will forge a strong bond between you and all of the characters, so you will most definitely need a hand to hold when the massive secrets and twists begin showing their nasty faces. Brie gets a whole lot more than she bargained for….

How do I measure how much I loved this book? Well, I had to "call a friend", Millionaire style, and ask what happened at the end. Seems like I got too excited and did the mad dash to the finish line! Catastrophic History will rewire your "sensible" cells and demand you read it in one sitting, whether it's 5am or not! The romance ties together with the conflicts perfectly and is another platform on which Brie can question what her life means to her compared to another. The novel is set out in parts of the Five Stages and it works amazingly well for the story. I was truly stunned by how well Rothenberg made it work and I'm on my knees bowing down to her brilliance! Grab the popcorn and tissues, and sit your behind down to read this with your girlfriends. (Pssst…offer free hugs.) Prepare to be awed and filled with absolute contentment as Rothenberg takes you through the emotional five stages of grief. Give Acceptance a wave when you see her!
