Series: Newsoul #1

Ana is new. For thousands of years in Range, a million souls have been reincarnated over and over, keeping their memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. When Ana was born, another soul vanished, and no one knows why. Even Ana’s own mother thinks she’s a nosoul, an omen of worse things to come, and has kept her away from society. To escape her seclusion and learn whether she’ll be reincarnated, Ana travels to the city of Heart, but its citizens are suspicious and afraid of what her presence means. When dragons and sylph attack the city, is Ana to blame? Sam believes Ana’s new soul is good and worthwhile. When he stands up for her, their relationship blooms. But can he love someone who may live only once, and will Ana’s enemies—human and creature alike—let them be together? Ana needs to uncover the mistake that gave her someone else’s life, but will her quest threaten the peace of Heart and destroy the promise of reincarnation for all?

In the world of Incarnate, everyone's been reincarnated hundreds of times while keeping their memories from every generation. It's always been this way…until Ana was born. After a girl named Ciana disappeared and was never reincarnated, a mysterious "nosoul" was born instead. Soul Tellers had never come across her soul before because she was living her first and only life. If you love the concept of reincarnation, this beautiful and mysterious story will pull you in immediately. I know I'm desperate for more!

Leaving home on her 18th birthday to find out about her existence, Ana finds herself lost in the forest with her faulty compass and under attack by a group of Sylphs. A boy named Sam rescues her from the freezing depths of a lake and the two fall for each other from that moment on. While Ana is disbelieving and suspicious of his generosity, the two bond and you see their love develop every step of the way. After she realises he isn't out to hurt her, they share a familiar closeness and their attraction is undeniable, no matter how hard they try to fight it. Sam has a heart of gold and he's a talented musician who writes Ana songs…need I say more? You will most definitely fall in love with him just as Ana and I did! Unlike everyone else, Sam believes she's a newsoul, rather than a nosoul, and convinces her that she has just as much right to love as anyone else. Are we melting yet?
"I tried to teach Sam, but he just eats the batter."
Sam gave an exaggerated sigh. "I was five and storing up for a growth spurt. You were practically starving me by making me wait for things to bake."
Range is a place filled with supernatural creatures; centaurs, sylphs, trolls, griffins, dragons and more! When Sam brings Ana to the safety of Heart, she's only allowed entrance if she agrees to study and undergo testing to "become useful". Even then, people are wary and unfriendly because they worry she won't be the first of her kind. When will the next nosoul arrive? Which of their own will disappear forever again? As the novel progresses and we come to the climax, this becomes one of the big themes. Many are determined to eliminate Ana so she's constantly looking over her shoulder and narrowly escaping attackers, even with the protection of Sam. The mythology is deeply explored, as well as the history, and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about this world!
Apparently Sam wasn't happy if he wasn't sneaking up on me. How unfulfilling his hundred previous lives must have been.
Overall, Incarnate is a breath of fresh air, with a new concept and a cast of interesting characters. While at times the story is simple, you'll love exploring the adventures of Sam and Ana as they navigate the obstacles in Heart and try to quell the levels of tension surrounding them. Although the entire storyline about souls is fascinating, there's no getting over the lure of the romance. It's completely endearing and will leave you in a very delicate state. With twists and other unexpected shocks, Incarnate is entertaining from beginning to end! I want more!

I love the cover! So many butterfly references in the book <3
