If you love mermaids, sweet romances and fun characters, you'll hate to miss Forgive My Fins! As a half-mermaid princess, Lily Sanderson must bond with someone before she can become the Queen at eighteen. While she's in love with Brody Bennett, a gorgeous guy who she manages on the swim team and works with on the news team, she doesn't realise that her next door neighbour might be perfect for her… They've known each other for years but Lily only sees Quince as the mean jerk who's determined to foil her "ask Brody to the school dance" plans. Oh, how in the dark she is! Forgive My Fins takes us into the magical world of Thalassinia and introduces us to characters we can't help but love. A very entertaining read!
In this world, mermaids are a secret. If humans were to ever find out, they'd tear the seas apart looking for the underwater civilisation. Lily's convinced she can trust Brody though, and the special thing about these mermaids? With one kiss, the human boy will soon transform into a merman and become bonded to the mermaid. Romantic feelings will be heightened and the two can live happily ever after, right? … After one of Quince's harmless pranks, Lily mistakes him for Brody and kisses him. The previous information I mentioned? *nods* That happens. It was a rollercoaster ride watching the two fall in love. Readers will quickly realise Quince has genuine feelings for Lily but she's just too blind to see it, focused only on winning Brody's heart! At times it really was heartbreaking to see her reject him again and again, her insults piercing deeper than she realised. *sighs* These characters are great though. They have so many layers and peeling them back one by one? Amazing.
After Lily takes Quince to Thalassinia to sever the bond and stop the transformation, her plans are halted by her father who forces her to consider her decision very carefully. Time is running out for her to find a mate so she's made to wait one week before he officially decides whether or not to break the bond - once it's done, Quince can't ever become a merman again. During this week, the two are put through tests and Lily slowly comes to realise maybe he isn't that horrible after all. Quince is actually entirely loveable, loyal, trustworthy, charming and funny so when their relationship changes, you'll be pumping your fists in the air! Of course, things can't simply this easy. Forgive My Fins is filled with unfortunate complications that have long-lasting consequences. Can you hear my heart breaking?
From Lily's mermaid friends to the royal castle, you'll fall in love with the mermaid world. The possibilities seem endless and you'll definitely want to be one after reading this! If that's not enough, the King is the caring and kind type who'll cuddle you when you need it - teddy bear, anyone? Forgive My Fins is a light-hearted read that's filled with emotion too. With a clever plot and characters you'll have no trouble falling in love with, you'll fly through the book quickly, no problem! Watch out for the foreboding ending though…
While Sweet Venom still tops my list from Tera's books, I still have to read her God series to see how they compare! Anyone read them?
